It’s Terrance’s 30th consecutive Jazzfest performance y’all! For those who know it’s common knowledge that this event is still the Gold Standard of festivals, and especially for Louisiana music genres. People often plan their spring around Jazzfest and they eagerly await the schedule so they can figure out which weekend they’ll attend. This year, we perform 2nd weekend. May 1 to be exact. The finale! Last year it was Thursday at Congo Sq. with Cyril and Third World-how righteous was that?! Loved the Thursday, but then again-we love all the days of JF. U2?

Since 1970 Quint Davis and George Wein were committed to shining a spotlight on the unique and indigenous music of New Orleans, and Louisiana. Please visit the festival website and add us to your line up at the link below! A lil NOJHF history lesson. As we read this, we took inventory of the many momentous scenes we’ve had and also seen ourselves at this event. A millions thanks to the Jazz & Heritage Foundation and Festival Productions for this honor-for 30 consecutive years!

Mahalia Jackson, often called the greatest gospel singer, returned to her hometown to appear at the first New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April of 1970. While attending the Louisiana Heritage Fair in Congo Square (then known as Beauregard Square), she and Duke Ellington, who also appeared at the event, came upon the Eureka Brass Band leading a crowd of second-line revelers through the Festival grounds. George Wein, producer of the Festival, handed Ms. Jackson a microphone, she sang along with the band and joined the parade…and the spirit of Jazz Fest was born. This spontaneous, momentous scene—this meeting of jazz and heritage—has stood for decades since as a stirring symbol of the authenticity of the celebration that was destined to become a cultural force.
